Transferred from Classifieds:

Robert simiriglio: I have a 47.   We have a Queen.  Fuel tanks under bed. All cabinets on both sides.

Scott Blewett: Hello   I moved my tanks to middle and installed a double bed in my old 42,  installed a head board as well.

Trey Bull: It’s not impossible, but it’ll cost some money. You’ll have to relocate your gas tanks and maybe purchase one big tank for both engines. I’m sure you’ll want a walk around bed.

Hello friends,

We are moving up from 1967 31 Commander to a 1967 42ft! It was a past time member's boat. Fitzgibbon was the last name. We are looking to covert the aft cabin twins into a queen. Has anyone done so? I was thinking of extending one of the twins over and laying two mattresses on there to make it bigger. I know the fuel tanks are under the twins. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I did this with my 68 42' Commander. I used a standard double pillow top mattress. I believe a queen will be too wide. With the double we still have room for a dresser and we converted the other single into a day bed with a cabinet that is 18" deep running along the wall. My carpenter built it to fit the curve of the wall and matched the closet door with two sliding doors on the cabinet. The vent slots in the sliders match the closet door vent slots so it looks like original cabinetry. I built the base extension out of 2x4's and covered them with marine plywood on the top and sides. This entire base is self supporting so it can be removed if need be. Going with a double size mattress will leave you with plenty of walk space between the beds and looks like it was designed that way. Please see attached picture

I put a waterbed in my 68 42' Commander. Just laid a thick piece of plywood across the twin beds. On Quentin's 42' Commander he has plans on how he built his.

Remembering Fred Delavan

ree

Commander Club members are mourning the passing of longtime member Fred Delavan.  People like Fred are a reason our passion for Chris-Craft Commanders thrives today.  It saddens all of us at the Chris-Craft Commander Club to learn of his passing.

Fred was a member of the Chris Craft Commander Club since 2001.  He and his wife, Eileen Powers, enjoyed boating on Chesapeake Bay aboard NORTHERN STAR, a 38’ Chris-Craft Commander1969. They attended many national rendezvous and hosted one in 2009 on Kent Island, MD.

We were part of their quest to find their perfect Commander offering suggestions, advice and tips.  Before finding their Commander, they attended the 2002 rendezvous in Portsmouth, VA.  They shared their experience in a post:

What a great time!  Friendships were fostered.  It was like a blind date.  No one looked the way I imagined they would look.  It took a while for the revised…

The last time I saw Fred was a chance meeting at the Saint Petersburg Yacht Club many years ago. He was with his Wife Eileen and as a member of the SPYC at the time I was able to show them around the Club and host them to cocktails. The favor was returned at the next Chris Craft Commander Club rendezvous. I remember him having a very gentle nature with quite self assurance. My heart goes out to Eileen and all of his family members. RIP Fred!

Props for 36' Sports Cruiser/ 360

I am running 22"x24" props on my 1973 36' and I did a search and found that it appears i should be running 20"x20"??? Is this true? Am i running props TOO LARGE for my boat? this is potentially a 2" difference in diameter!??? It might explain why my boat struggles to get over 4000 rpms and doesn't seem to get out of its own way - the fastest I've achieved is 18 knots. These numbers seem WAY out of reach for me, and maybe its because i'm running the wrong props?

Hey Whitney, my 1972 36' Sports Cruiser was repowered in 2005 with small block Mercruiser's and ZF 63A-25 transmission (2.5:1) with the same HP as the factory 427's. I'm currently running 3 bladed 22D X 20P wheels on my boat with no issues achieving correct WOT RPMs.
