Transferred from Classifieds:

Robert simiriglio: I have a 47.   We have a Queen.  Fuel tanks under bed. All cabinets on both sides.

Scott Blewett: Hello   I moved my tanks to middle and installed a double bed in my old 42,  installed a head board as well.

Trey Bull: It’s not impossible, but it’ll cost some money. You’ll have to relocate your gas tanks and maybe purchase one big tank for both engines. I’m sure you’ll want a walk around bed.

Hello friends,

We are moving up from 1967 31 Commander to a 1967 42ft! It was a past time member's boat. Fitzgibbon was the last name. We are looking to covert the aft cabin twins into a queen. Has anyone done so? I was thinking of extending one of the twins over and laying two mattresses on there to make it bigger. I know the fuel tanks are under the twins. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I did this with my 68 42' Commander. I used a standard double pillow top mattress. I believe a queen will be too wide. With the double we still have room for a dresser and we converted the other single into a day bed with a cabinet that is 18" deep running along the wall. My carpenter built it to fit the curve of the wall and matched the closet door with two sliding doors on the cabinet. The vent slots in the sliders match the closet door vent slots so it looks like original cabinetry. I built the base extension out of 2x4's and covered them with marine plywood on the top and sides. This entire base is self supporting so it can be removed if need be. Going with a double size mattress will leave you with plenty of walk space between the beds and looks like it was designed that way. Please see attached picture

I put a waterbed in my 68 42' Commander. Just laid a thick piece of plywood across the twin beds. On Quentin's 42' Commander he has plans on how he built his.
