As Tim mentioned the final "R" in you hull number means the boat was built at the Roamer plant, which was located in Holland, MI. I would start with printing out the "deciphering the model number" as Tim suggested in the interim but also ordering the hull card as Char suggests, it generally takes a couple of weeks to get. It's fun getting the build sheet to see where the boat was originally sold and with what options and it's also a nice way to support the Mariner's Museum.

From what I have seen in boats of this era, it is likely that your two 50A inlets are 50A 120VAC, not the more common "modern" 50A 240VAC. If you have a single 50A 240VAC outlet at your dock you will need a splitter adapter. As Lee mentioned, I would expect the inlets to be labeled something like "Line 1 - Main" and "Line 2 - AC".

I can understand why Chris-Craft may have stopped installing glass at the front of the cabin. My 1973 has the glass but we keep the curtains closed all the time as we have back cushions on the bow seat that remain in place all season. There seems to be more than enough light in the salon with the front windows covered.

Looking good! Interesting that you have the retractable screen for the cabin door top, I do not have that feature on my 1973.

I have a love hate relationship with brightwork. I love looking at it but hate maintaining it. Maybe hate is too harsh but those covers look like a great way to extend the period between refinishing.

Wow, amazing how much wider the 8V71Ns are than the Cummins or Caterpillar V8s. Those old naturally aspirated Detroit 71s seem to run forever, such a great design. I also like the sound of Detroits at idle. I fell in love with that sound as a teen when a late '80s Hatteras 70MY was a transient at South Bay Cove. I think it had 12V71TAs. When the captain fired her up at the dock it sounded like a fleet of GMC "fish bowl" city buses were in the engine room.

Scott, It would be fun to meet up in Orillia, are they still doing the Chris-Craft rendezvous there every summer? I'll need to run that by the family for concurrence as I'm still treading lightly after losing all of the 2022 and half of 2023 boating seasons due to the repower of our 47. It would be great if we could get Steve V's 1969 47 "International Eagle" there as well. Regarding mufflers, my 1973 47 had the 6" fiberglass Venatones from the factory. I'm not sure how it actually sounded as I bought it as a project on the hard. When I removed the Cummins VT8-370Ms and installed Caterpillar 3208TAs I added Vetus waterlift mufflers inline between the turbos and the Vernatones. I was able to mount them behind the engines above the shafts. At the transom with the engines running you can't hear the exhaust over the engine mechanical noise coming back from the engine room vents.

Scott, I checked out your profile after seeing you were a fellow Canadian with a 47 Commander. I see you have one of the two legenadary 47 Commanders powered with 8V71Ns. I would love to see engine room pictures and hear how the boat runs!
