Drilling a drain plug
My 1973 36’ had the drain plug removed by the previous owner,
Questions
Should I use a Spade Blade Drill bit or a hole saw to drill the hole?
Do I need to seal the raw fiberglass in the hole before installing the through hull drain plug assembly?
Lastly, do you recommend 5200 or what sealer?

The problem with the original garboard plug from Chris was the size of the fitting which was no longer available (It was a weird size) and since they were filling that hole anyway decided not to redrill at the advice of the yard. That being said. Robert's comment below and pictures is the best advice. Use a hole saw or a forstener NOT a spade (Spliters and not a clean hole) I personally use 4200 above the water line and 5200 below (Something that won't need removal). Finally using a shop vac to evacuate water in an engine room on gas boats is highly explosive and not suggested. Hope this helps.
