1988 Chris-Craft 422 Commander gas gauges don't work
Through an inheritance I picked up a 1988 Chris-Craft 422 tournament edition. All the gauges on the dashboard work on both engines but the three gas gauges do not.
I thought it might be the gas gauge sensor units in the tanks. I was able to locate the sensor on top of the auxiliary tank and I can get to it easily. I tried crossing the sending gauge wire with the ground wire and it did not move the needle.
I was able to locate the two sender gauges on top of the main tanks but the problem is I cannot get to them. Through the two openings on top of the cockpit floor it opens up to the top of the tank and you can see them but you cannot get to them. I had a few choice words to say about Chris-Craft that you would give me an opening to get to them but the opening you gave me is not big enough that I can see them but I can't get to them to take them out.
I took the deep well inserts out and went up underneath the cockpit floor and again I can see them but I can't get to them.
I have not removed the dash panel to see if there's something on the gauges themselves that is corroded or loose.
As again all the gauges on both engines on the dash work except the gas gauges.
So anybody that can explain to me how to solve this problem is greatly appreciated. Are there any new state-of-the-art gauges that you can get that avoids having sensors in the tank.
I originally thought it would be an easy fix when I watched some YouTube videos saying 9 out of 10 times it is the sensors in the tanks but then when I went to get to them that's when I got very frustrated with the design of not being able to get to them. Any input is
greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Check the ground connections on the tanks. If they are loose or corroded the circuit will not complete.
