Fuel Tanks

I have a 1970 Commander with aft cabin and have been told that the fuel tanks (should) be replaced given the age of the boat.

The boat has never been in salt water and has only been used 15-20 hrs a year for the past 40 years.

Would anyone have comments on such a statement...?

Would anyone have experience with such a replacement...?

Many thanks for your comments

Captain Marc ..... Consider a fuel polishing service for your tanks . Also if you are using ethanol laced fuel at your marina that is a HUGE problem . Ethanol is a SOLVENT and will soften the galvanized coating inside your tanks over time . Consider not listening to the dockside experts about replacing your fuel tanks . Changing your fuel filters on a frequent maintenance schedule EVERY season will help you monitor your tank sediment condition if you don`t consider the fuel polishing process . Don`t forget to also clean / replace the fuel filter in the carb fuel inlet . Keep us posted .
