An Open Letter To Our outgoing Chief
Dear Scott,
As I sit here today after your final Commanderclub Executive Committee Call, I was led to sit down and write this because so many in this club never see "whats behind the curtain". So I'm pulling it back for a short time.
In your term:
You assembled a fantastic team of talent and knowledge in their respective areas, and kept them on track with the clubs best interest always at heart even when you may not have agreed with It. You asked the tough questions when needed always explaining why that question is necessary. You avoided the "normal" muddy waters politics, and rumors that often plague many boards bringing them to a stall, summarizing a cornerstone phrase I'm all to familiar with "Prioritizing Principles over Personalities" in every step you made or directed. Meaning quite simply, you lead with democracy. Firm and steady, making sure each person had a voice and a vote. You gave of your time, your talent, and your energy willingly, never complaining, but always with a smile. You helped host and coordinate a magnificent 25th Anniversary rendezvous, and Helped re coordinate areas like the Dock Shop, and the Commanderclub Forum when once again, the technology threw us a curve ball. In my particular department, You helped and supported streamlining our accounting processes and treasury allowing me to run with it making our expenses and accounting easy enough for anyone to do it. And finally, While you were a hands on leader, in most cases you delegated the work to those on your team without micromanaging (Something so desperately missing in this world these days) It's no secret that In some (Not all) years past there was so much confusion and turmoil, and debate on the clubs direction and focus because of the "Noise", that lots of people have passed at the opportunity to serve on the board. Truth hurts sometimes, but it was this bridge and your leadership that determined going forward, that we would avoid that noise, and focus instead on our members, knowing their wants, needs, and expectations. I believe we have achieved just that without reservation.
My Summary, is simple. My thanks for your service is heartfelt and genuine. My excitement for the future of this club is once again at an all time high, and the incoming Chief, I believe, will do nothing short of carrying on the plan you began and actually volunteered to take the nomination (Which proves all my points above). I wish you a great break from the "Business side" of the club, but implore you to stay active, share your knowledge, and keep up the tradition this club was built on. Happy sailing Chief! You earned it!
