Whit’s End rides again

After a long year of trials and tribulations I finally got my 1973 36’ Tournament Fisherman running. The boat was sold to me with “rebuilt engines” but the port engine had thrown a rod bearing and had ruined the crankshaft. I pulled the motor in late September and took it to rebuilder early October. He diagnosed the cause could have been oil restriction from incorrect oil lines on the remote oil filter, they had fittings on the ends of the lines that were smaller than the standard N10 id needed. I picked up the rebuilt engine Dec 31, 2024. Got it back in the boat in the early spring and started reconnecting it in May, then June. The biggest challenge was correcting the oil lines making new lines twice until I got it right then getting the remote oil filter adapter to stop leaking with the correct gaskets and a repair, which was all difficult being on the port engine on the outboard side Between the hull and the engine is a very tight space to work. Finally, after much testing and more oil in the bildge that I care to admit, yesterday we took her out for a spin on the Hudson River and she performed well. so it took about nine months to

rebuild the port engine and approximately $10,000 in total expenses.
