Fiberglass repair advice

Hi all- need some advice on repairing some fiberglass. The bracket to the Bimini hoop got beat up on rough seas and the screws wiggled loose. Now the screws won’t thread and I’ve got a bunch of damage. Any advice on repair welcome.

While the other suggestions here will infact allow you to fast track to reattaching your binini hardware, theres more to it to get to a more structurally sound and cosmeticly apealing result.

First, run a high speed buffer all around the area souronding the damage to remove oxidation and bring out the color youll need to match. Then the affected area gets ground down to the glass.

Once raw glass is exposed wipe it with some solvant like degreaser. This will allowyou to see if the crack is still present in the glass. If still visible, then continue to grind till its gone.

Then layers of new glass gets fit and installed . Use a resin roller to compress the new glass.

Then carefully grind the new glass slightly lower than the finished surface.

The next step is the one thats most challenging which is matching the color of the gelcoat.

Gel can be applied with a brush in alternating directions . Up/down on one coat and side to side on the next.

Fair out the gelcoat. It may be necessary to apply another round of gel if the surface doesn't finish sand flat.
