327/350 Q engine location

It really looks like my engines in my 31 Commander Salon are located too far aft by at least 2”. Does anyone have a design location for the engine mounts? My hull is #1 out of the Chattanoga Plant. I read somewhere in later boats the forward bulkhead in the engine room moved forward. I don’t know how to confirm or evaluate this.

If you relocate the engine forward, you will need to realign engine to the shaft to match the new output shaft height relative to the thru hull packing gland and the strut. Those two line up. One question relative to in water servicing the packing gland. My 31 had little room too. When I had it out of the water, I pulled the shaft and disassembled the packing gland to replace packing n it. There were years of someone adding packing. I took out all of it and started over. Gained enough in reduced packing length to make it serviceable.
