Noise Reduction tips?
Love my 1971 55ft Commander.
However, the twin 8v71's are noisy, especially in the salon.
I'm searching for specific types of insulation and/or methods to reduce the noise levels.
Appreciate any advise!
Thanks.

When I repowered with Caterpillar 3208TAs I installed 6" Vetus waterlift mufflers. I put them in the engine room, right behind each engine. I also left the original 6" Vernatones inline downstream and added 2" side exhaust bypasses between them, dumping out the original raw water bypass outlets. The boat is very quiet at the transom at any engine speed. I also believe it makes the boat slightly quieter inside as the exhaust is already muffled by the time it leaves the engine room, resulting in less sound radiated from the exhaust system as it passes through the aft quarters to the transom.
Regarding engine noise in the salon, the Soundown carpet underpadding apparently makes a difference in noise transmitted through the salon floor, especially if it is cut in as few sections as possible to cover over hatch seams in the floor: https://soundown.com/product/carpet-underlayment-1-2-2lb-premium/
Beyond sound transmitting through the floor, I think another issue is sound coming through the cabinets on either side of the salon due to the hull side engine room vents, which are not insulated.
