I have bought a pair of Petronix igniter kits, part # 1581-LS for the Prestolite IBM4115 distributor. There were no magnetic collars included. Some research on line finds that the magnetic collar is no longer required, the Petronix uses the lobe of the distributor. Has anyone used these kits without the collar, or can anyone provide some useful information regarding this application?

Thats a first for me. But not necessarily untrue Id call Pertronix if you havent yet.
From some research on line, I have found that LS stands for lobe sensor where the igniter uses the lobe of the distributor eliminating the need for the magnetic collar. The vendor I bought from contacted Petronix and was given this information also. It supposedly gives a more uniform/accurate/reliable performance.
Yes yes yes. The LS at the end of the part number means lobe sensing. I have had mine for 10 years. They are awesome.
Learn something new each day is always my goal. Thanks for bringing this new technology to the forum!

I have spoken with a technician at Petronix who has told me that the LS, lobe sensing- is an outstanding product. Everything needed is now inside the sealed module. As a matter of fact, Petronix no longer makes the kit with the magnetic collar that fit under the rotor.
