For those of you who knew Dave you can appreciate his mechanical ability and professionalism. I once did a delivery with Dave from Ft. Lauderdale to Annapolis. When the day was done I was sipping on Beers while Dave was in the engine room making sure everything was OK and ready for the next day. He treated that delivery boat better then I would treat my very own. That's the kind of guy he was.
His project boat is now for sale by his Widow. I have personally checked it out and can testify that mechanically this boat is ready for it's new owner. The Engines start and run great. A 305 on the Port with less then 100 hours and a 327 on the Stb with ??? hours. Both are raw water cooled. Risers & Exhaust Manifolds appear to be in good condition and the whole engine room is very clean. I have not sea trialed the boat but I am confidant that what ever issues there are would be minor and easily fixable. I do know that one of the Gas gauges on the lower helm does not work but both work on the Fly Bridge. The interior is of the period bleached oak Formica and needs some TLC in my opinion. The exterior Gel Coat is in good shape and a coat of wax should make it shine even brighter than it does now. The canvas is in good shape. The Taft Rail has been removed and sanded ready for Varnish to be reinstalled by buyer. The Boat is located in Madeira Beach, FL (Saint Petersburg). Good afternoon everyone, I'm interested in this vessel. Thank you for allowing me to join. I have a couple questions:
-I saw some of the old spec sheets on here and is it true these would ride max at 33 MPH? Cruise I assume would be 20-22?
-What kind of MPG could I expect?
-Is it hard to pull the old gas tanks and replace with new?
-Should I have them cleaned before running in water?
Anything else I can look for would be great. Dave definitely was mechanically inclined and seemed like a great man.
Alex, Sorry for the delay in answering but I have been traveling. I will try and answer your questions but can only use my 31 as a reference. I have never been able to obtain more then 22 Knots (25.3 mph) on my Boat but have heard of some other owners claiming to go faster. I normally cruise at 14 - 15 Knots (16.1 - 17.25 mph) to conserve fuel. At that speed my Boat burns 16 gph. There is fresh Ethanol free gas in the tanks and having run the engines with no problems I don't think you need to clean the tanks. If there was water or other contaminates in the tanks the engines would not run well at all. I have replaced the original 2 x 55 gallon round tanks with 2 x 85 gal rectangular tanks. Dave's Boat has the original 2 x 55 galleon tanks. Dave's Boat is a Sedan model while mine is an Express. For my boat I had to remove one of the exhaust Y pipes to get the old tanks out and the new tanks in. From the different layouts it looks like it would be easier to replace Dave's but I'm not sure since I didn't inspect it with that in mind.
This boat has all the mechanical's in good working order. If you are really interested I suggest you give me a call to discuss at 727 547 8307. Tim
That wasn’t much of a delay at all, and thanks so much. I saw the boat yesterday in person and Linda’s good friend John knew quite a bit also. I’m going to see it one more time and hopefully sea trial it if we can come to an agreement. Thanks for everything!
Alex, I hope you come to an agreement. This is a good boat and a good price considering all the mechanical stuff Dave did. If you want to talk or have any questions about the 31's I have Hull No. 5 and have had her for 44 years. There's not much I haven't done (twice or more) so pick my brains! Tim
I certainly will I assure you of that!
