Checking to see if anyone has experience removing these couplings from my two piece prop shafts. I need to remove these so I can pull the shafts back to make room to remove and replace the bearings. Any help would appreciated, thanks.
Those muff couplers look different than the ones I had on my 1973 47 with 1-3/4" shafts. Mine had a copper pipe used as a sleeve on the outside of the muff coupling to retain the pins. I had to pound the sleeve forward to expose the pins, then pound the pins out and the sections could then be separated. My shaft ends were tapered.
I changed my shafts to 2" and went with Hatteras style clamp together muff couplings and straight shaft ends, which seem easier to service.
Warren, did you have to grind the ends of the pins first then punch them out? Did you change the shafts right away or did you reassemble the shaft as it is and use it until the new shafts were made.

I am hoping to not have to change the shafts but that is a good idea and would make service much easier. Thank you for your response
