The 38 Sedan is an excellent version of the 38 Commander. The weight distribution is further forward than the Express, yielding a very sea worthy boat that does not need much trim tab to achieve proper planing attitudes, a definite safety plus in following seas. The lower helm station is virtually in the center of the boat, both lengthwise and athwartships. This minimizes relative motion at the helm station in heavy seas. Many members like the lower cabin / wheelhouse arrangement as being very livable, especially in less than ideal weather. This model is also quieter than than the Express due to the wood decking over the engines, which usually is covered with carpet. This really muffles engine noise. 38 Sedans with 427's are generally very adequately powered, and these engines, if properly cared for, will last a long, long time. Nice boats !

I own wide deck 1972 38 sedan--With my 2 3208 cats, I cruise 16 kn@12gph. My 200gph Watermaker allows me much freedom. The Nor light 5kw dsl gen powers my AC and electric galley. The radar is reliABLE AS WELL AS GPS CHART. I fiberglassed over the forward cabin fixed window(w/nida core). this eliminated all forward cabin leaks-new member --todd marsh 727 389 1404 --will be selling this around $37K when it comes out of drydock. e mail lmwcats@msn.com

The most annoying things about my 69 38' commander were the lousy battery location, unidetified circuit switc panel, compressed sleeping style for a 38' craft. Otherwise was a strong reliable craft I enjoyed for fve years at Marina Del Ray Ca.

There are some unique aspects of the FFA model. The biggest and most obvious thing is lowered aft deck and lack of taff rail. Chris Craft deleted the deck hardware around the aft deck to make it more user friendly to the fisherman. It shares the center helm location with the sedan model but, has the hard top of an express. There was a step of about 8" between the aft deck and main cabin all of which were plywood covered in weathered teak color Nautalex. The fuel and h2o tanks were coustom built welded steel and unique to this model. There are about a dozen FFA's that I know of from crusin the web. Mine along with a couple of others have been extensivly modified. "Feelgood", FFA 38 0005 H is docked at Gem Beach Marina on Catawba Island in Ohio. She has been documented with many photo's on The Chris Craft Commander Forum.
