The 35 commander is an excellent hull form. Unique build and styling allow for a nice v-berth with good head room and ample salon and a very large aft deck. The styling by Dick Avery allows for one of the most stylish boats every drawn (a little bias here on my part perhaps). The high freeboard forward and gradually sweeping downward broken shear line of the side profile really makes this a unique model. The deep aft cockpit with high bulwarks translates to a very roomy and secure feeling aft deck. The power choice with twin 230 HP in my boat made for a slow cruise at about 20mph. The better choice of the day would be the CC/Ford 427. The addition of Fuel Injected Crusader engines has allowed a top speed at WOT of 39.7 MPH (4760rpm) and nice cruise speed of 30.7 at 3600 rpm. I now cruise and enjoy diesel type fuel economy with gasoline engines. I average about 1.2MPG - 1.08MPG between 3000 and 3600 rpm at 24mph-30mph. Chris Craft moved the water tank forward in 1970 under the V berth and increased the fuel capacity sometime after 1968 to twin 115 gallon saddle tanks. The Salon windows are a unique feature of the Commander Line (and most Chris Crafts) and the 35 has plenty of light and the smallest commander with the integrated bow seat. The boat came with a single bilge pump and this should be upgraded on boats today to a higher capacity and offer a redundant configuration for safety. In my opinion The 35 Commander could only be improved by Mr. Avery drawing a similar style in the low to mid 40's. Chris Craft executed a very durable and well build model in the 35 commander series.
